Coach Gene Wade

Coach Gene was born and raised in the small small town of Nixa, Missouri where he played baseball in school.  After High School graduation, he started college at South Carolina State playing basketball.  In the summer he was given the opportunity to do Spring Training with the L.A. Dodgers where he made it to the last cut.  He then joined the Coast Guard and served for 15 years, traveling the world and playing volleyball in every country he visited!  Coach Gene has played beach volleyball the past 16 years in countries such as Lithuania, Estonia, Russia, Poland, Mexico, Ecuador, Peru and in the US as far west as Alaska.  While playing and winning tournaments for beach ball, indoor volleyball was also a hobby for Coach Gene.  He has a traveling adult team that travels all over the United States and makes an appearance at Adult Nationals every year, and sometimes even plays at Nationals :)  Coach Gene has coached volleyball for the last 7-8 years mostly beach but in the last couple of years has moved to training the next generation of Olympic indoor players!  It is Coach Gene's passion to play and teach anyone who is willing to learn the game he has come to love.....VOLLEYBALL!

Assistant Coach Andrea Mercereau

Coach Andrea played high school volleyball  as well as club ball.   Upon graduating High School, at the age of 17, she joined the Navy as a Corpsman.  She deployed once on the USS Oscar Austin to the Middle East in 2005-2006.  She separated from Active Duty in April of 2010 and remains affiliated through the Navy Reserves.  Coach Andrea is currently in her senior year in the School of Nursing at ODU and is hoping to graduate at the top of her class (crosses her fingers:) in August 2012.  When she's not hanging out with the ECVC crowd (off season), she plays volleyball in women's and co-ed teams around town.  Aside from volleyball, Coach Andrea enjoys running, kayaking, and hanging out with her doggies.  She is looking forward to another wonderful Hurricanes' Season!
